Katy Perry Says Goodbye to ‘American Idol’
Katy Perry said her goodbyes on “American Idol” after seven successful seasons as a judge. On Sunday night’s live “Idol” season finale, the event was marked by a special tribute to Perry’s career.
The finale featured a medley of Perry’s hit songs, including “Teenage Dream,” “Dark Horse,” and “California Gurls.” The performance culminated with Perry energetically jumping onto the judges’ table, showcasing her characteristic enthusiasm and showmanship.
In addition to the tribute medley, Perry also performed “What Makes a Woman” during the three-hour finale. This performance highlighted her impact and contributions to the show before her departure.
Perry had announced her decision to leave the ABC singing competition back in February. Her departure comes ahead of her planned appearance at the Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil this fall, which conflicts with “Idol’s” production schedule.
The season 22 finale also saw the crowning of a new “American Idol” winner. Abi Carter took home the title after an impressive rendition of Billie Eilish’s hit song, “What Was I Made For?”
Perry has served as a judge on “American Idol” alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan since 2018.
The show’s official Instagram account posted a heartfelt video of Perry eating pizza as the ladies of the top 12 sang her hits, with the caption, “We will miss you @katyperry, thanks for 7 memorable seasons! Go fly butterfly.”
As Katy Perry moves on to new opportunities, her departure marks the end of an era for “American Idol.” Fans and colleagues alike will miss her presence on the show, but her legacy and influence will undoubtedly continue to resonate.
