Iran launched a major missile attack on Israel on Tuesday, causing sirens to sound throughout the country. CNN teams on the ground reported seeing dozens of missiles over key cities, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.
Videos have surfaced showing an Israeli air base hit during the Iranian strikes. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported conducting a “large number of interceptions” to prevent further damage. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it targeted Israeli security and military installations in retaliation for the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other figures.
The Israeli military, which initially estimated that around 180 missiles were launched toward Israel, warned that this aggressive action “will have consequences.”
The attack followed a U.S. intelligence report that suggested Iran was preparing a ballistic missile offensive against Israel in response to Israel’s ongoing ground operations in southern Lebanon. These operations, described by Israeli officials as “localized raids,” were focused on Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group operating in Lebanon.
