Iran Warns of Bigger Attacks if Israel Strikes Back
Iran’s military chief issued a stern warning following a missile attack on Tuesday, stating that while the strikes were limited to military targets, broader actions could follow if Israel chooses to respond.
Major General Mohammad Bagheri revealed that Iran specifically targeted key military sites, including the Mossad intelligence agency, Nevatim Air Base, Hatzor Air Base, radar installations, and concentrations of Israeli tanks. Despite being able to launch a more extensive offensive, Bagheri emphasized that the strikes were deliberately restricted to military objectives.
“We could attack the regime’s economic infrastructure, but we only targeted military bases,” he said during a statement on Wednesday.
He also issued a clear warning to Israel and its allies.
“If the Zionist regime is not restrained and takes any action against Iran, we will target all of its infrastructure,” Bagheri stated.
The general explained that the missile strikes were in direct retaliation for the recent assassinations of key figures: Ismail Haniyeh, Hassan Nasrallah, and Abbas Nilforoushan.
Nasrallah, who had led the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah for more than three decades, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his underground bunker in Beirut last Friday. Nilforoushan, a senior commander from Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed alongside him, as confirmed by Iranian state media.
Hamas political leader Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran back in July when an explosive device, covertly placed in the guesthouse where he was staying, detonated, according to a source familiar with the situation. Both the Iranian government and Hamas have pointed to Israel as responsible for the assassination, though Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
“Since the assassination of Martyr Haniyeh, we have endured a challenging period of restraint at the repeated request of the Americans and Europeans, who urged us to hold back to establish a ceasefire in Gaza. However, after the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Commander Nilforoushan, the situation became unbearable,” Bagheri explained.
The missile strikes against Israel signal a sharp escalation in the ongoing conflict, with Iran reacting forcefully to what it views as provocative actions. The restrained initial response following Haniyeh’s assassination appears to have dissolved after the deaths of Nasrallah and Nilforoushan, pushing Iran to retaliate and deliver a clear message of its military capabilities and intent.
